During winter seasons and in dry climates, dry air can be difficult to avoid. Dry air can be dreadful to your sinuses and allergies, and nothing can be more soothing to coughing, sore throats, runny noses, and itchy eyes than refreshing, moistened air. Humidification can even be necessary in some situations, especially for those living in cold climates where constantly running a heating unit pushes warm, dry air into the house.
One of the best solutions to battling dry air and its harsh effects is a humidifier. Humidifiers create soothing, moist air by adding moisture to dry, harsh air. Although some humidifiers come as large whole house humidifiers attached to the HVAC unit, the most popular types of humidifiers are whole room humidifiers.
Vornado, an American owned and operated company, is an excellent manufacturer of high quality room humidifiers. Vornado humidifiers use a signature whole room circulator technology, Vortex Action, which takes air from all angles of the room, humidifies it, and pushes it back further into the room so that moistened air is distributed evenly throughout the entire room space.
There are basically two types of Vornado humidifiers, evaporative and ultrasonic, and there are pros and cons for both.
Evaporative humidifiers work by the concept of evaporation. Air is pulled by the Vortex Action fan and pulled through the filter, or wick material containing water; the moisturized air is then distributed evenly throughout the room. Utilizing a built-in humidistat, this type distributes the appropriate amount of moisture throughout the entire room. The amount of moisture that is dispensed throughout the room is determined by the current humidity in the room. This can be a drawback to using an evaporative humidifier because the amount of humidity that is dispensed cannot be manually controlled.
Ultrasonic humidifiers work by using a vibrating disk that works at ultrasonic frequency. This creates water droplets that are released into the air in a form of fog. Working with the same whole room circulation principle, moistened air is released across the entire expansion of the room. The drawback to this humidifier type is that bacteria can grow in stagnant water, and minerals in the water can be deposited into the air, which can be harmful when breathed. However, this Vornado model comes with special protection against both problems.
Whether evaporative or ultrasonic, Vornado offers outstanding humidification results, providing air that is freshened and moistened to the perfect degree of comfort.
